Innovative methods of employing auditory feedback for navigating technology: Auditory Menus, Auditory Graphs

Auditory Menus

  • Spearcons-  brief sounds that are created by speeding up spoken words in a particular way

  • Spindex - a speech-based index used to help a user know where they are in a long auditory menu

  • Auditory Scroll Bars - One, two, or three sounds can be used to convey the size of a list, and the user’s current location in that list. This serves as a scroll bar.

Auditory graphs

A poster presentation on graphical features in math and science textbooks that could be adapted to auditory representations so that students with visual limitations can understand these critical learning tools.
